About Us
Michigan Konkani Association was formed on November 23rd, 1985 and is based in Detroit, Michigan. The founding committee comprising of Dr. Satish N Kamath, Dr. K Ratnakar Kini, Dr. B Srinivas Baliga, Dr. Divakar Pai was headed by Dr. K Krishna Nayak. The association started with 30 members. In 2003, the members crossed the century mark and now touching the 200 mark. Yearly activities begin with Ugadi celebration, followed by an annual picnic in summer, Ganesh Chaturthi / Ashtami in September and a grand Diwali celebration towards the end of the year. All the functions are well attended. Members volunteer to bring authentic konkani food for certain functions and also put together a cultural program. The association is keen on promoting Indian and Konkani culture and its values to the second generation konkanis during each of its functions. The association members have served the local community in various capacities over the years.
